Music of the Month: Yeh hai Delhi 6

Indianomics music reviews

The charismatic musical emperor he is, A. R. Rahman has casted his magic on the upcoming film “Delhi 6”. Basking in glory of Baftas and Golden Globes, Rahman just delivered another smash hit music for Delhi 6. The musician, who used to be refered in the past as the Plastic musician due to his new dependence on technologicall instruments, has delivered his best ever performance.

If you view it this way, A. R. Rahman has launched quality music for over a decade now. I had the first taste of his music in the Tamil movie Roja. After that, the most captivating (on a national level) was the “Chaiyaa Chaiyaa” where Shahrukh Khan danced on a open train. Moving on to 2005 release of RDB (Rang de Basanti) where he composed a brilliant Punjabi mix which got so popular.

Now after having 3 nominations for Oscar, A. R. Rahman who is basking in glory of the sucessfull Slumdog Millionaire, has another best feather in his hat. Delhi 6.

The movie is about the time director Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra spent growing up in Delhi’s suburban area Chandi Chowk. Chandni Chowk’s pin code is 110006, which is commonly as Delhi – 6. The movie is about an American Born Indian who brings his ailing grandmother to India and gets in the longest journey of his inner self.

Sonam Kapoor is the daughter of Anil Kapoor (again the Slumdog Connection) who plays the lead female where as the lead male is Abhishek Bacchan. The character suits her perfectly and the style she follows in the trailer, a mix of Indian and Western combination brings her character from Inside. She definetly looks better than the big flop “Saawariya” where she was paired opposite Ranbir Kapoor.

The Song Masakalli is the best hit of all, which is being activly used for the promotion of the movie. Parsoon Joshi is the lyricist of the song and has been among the best of the latest generation lyricist. He is the Chairman (Asia Pacific) for McCann-Erickson for south and south-east Asia as well.

Here is the list of Songs.
