A Place for Lovers & Couples in Mumbai – Part 2

The original post written way back in 2009, a place for lovers and couples in Mumbai had been one of my top visited and top commented post as well. Then came the JetPack 2013 Analytics Report which suggested that I should write more about topics that earned me most visits. Hence I am writing a place of lovers and couples in Mumbai part two. 🙂

It is simple to understand why the subject of my post. It has earned me numerous hits over past four years. In Mumbai, there is less space for romance and more for everything else. You can openly spit, shit and piss on the streets without being caught by the Moral Police. But you can’t have a private moment of romance with your partner. Many of the people had paid a fine (bribe if you may) of more than INR 1000 for not getting into an indecent behavior, but just to stop things to reach the families.

Still, many have dared to (because there are no options) to spend their time at some places which are well-known. Couples find it increasingly difficult to accept going to such a place with your lover in fear of being caught. I had already mentioned in my previous post about Bandra Bandstand, Borivali National Park (Kanheri Caves), Cinema Hall or a Multiplex, Café and Discotheques and a few beaches like Silver Beach, Juhu Beach, Chowpatty, Versova Beach and Nehru Park.

In this one, I am going to update with some more places that I know would help couples have their own time, albeit without any indecency. In all these places that I recommend, do not try to go overboard as there are reports that couples even making out at Bandra Bandstand which is the height of indecency. These are open, public places and you should stick to romance, not love-making 😛

Part One

The part one of the series of the article provides a list of places focused primarily on beach and promenade type of locations. If you have not read it, please visit A Place for Lovers & Couples in Mumbai

Essel World and Water Kingdom

Mumbai boasts of three theme parks. Two in the west, and one down north-west offer a fun-filled getaway for couples. Essel World and the Water Kingdom near Borivali are perhaps the oldest theme parks in Mumbai, as well as the cheapest. It has some of the rides which you will need to pay for inside the park, but most of them are complimentary. Personally, I have enjoyed the Water Kingdom better than Essel World, but everyone has their own choices.

Essel World and Water Kingdom entry tickets cost around INR 500/- per person (be sure to check the latest prices), however the Adlabs Imagica is costlier at INR 1500/- per person.

Adlabs Imagica

The newest addition to the theme parks around Mumbai is the Adlabs Imagica near Khopoli, is accessible via Mumbai – Panvel – Pune expressway. I have not got a chance to go there, but have heard great things about this new place. It is, however, on the costlier side. You can check on their website for offers which are cheaper during festive / monsoon seasons.

Chota Kashmir

A reader named Ankush commented on the older post on the similar subject and informed me about this place called Chota Kashmeer (or Kashmir). Located in Goregaon East, Arey Milk Colony. Apparently, this place has been a popular location for many Hindi movies (which I do not know off) and offers a perfect setting for a romantic get away from the hustle of the city. Being close to the greenest of places in and around Mumbai, this place also is a bird lovers paradise of sorts. What other than chirps of birds to the background be best for a romantic conversation with your lover?

Powai Lake

Located between Jogeshwari and Vikhroli, on an aptly named road (JVLR), likes the Powai Lake. The famous catchment area is beautified by Hiranandani’s thanks to their Powai project. It now attracts lovers of all ages. The lake is also famous for crocodile sighting and shares its boundaries with the iconic IIT Powai and Hotel Renaissance.

The lake offers brilliant views, especially in the evenings. A must visit place for any couples looking out to have a good time, but cannot travel to the western side.

Gawli Dev

One of the most recent discoveries is this area on Parsik Hill, in the Ghansoli – Rabale belt. Approach to this trekking destination is via the Central Line road that runs through MIDC in Rabale, behind Reliance DAKC. Gawli Dev is a trek above Parsik Hill and has several small waterfalls.

During weekdays Gawli Dev is largely empty except for some college goers. The best time to visit is during monsoons, however, be mindful of drug addicts in the area.

Couples at Movies

You can go to a cinema hall (or multiplex) where a flop movie is running. Given that it is a flop, you can be sure that there are a limited number of people who will disturb you so you can have your own ‘sweet nothings.’ Or watch an anticipated movie or one that stars yours or your partner’s favorite actor, and enjoy watching it together.

Maratha Mandir

Maratha Mandir still shows Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (DDLJ) and your partner would love to watch it for the nth time. Maratha Mandir is one of the oldest cinema houses, which still runs morning shows of Shahrukh-Kajor starer Dil Wale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. The producers of the movie and Maratha Mandir hold the world record of having the longest ever run in a single theater. The station is a two-minute walk away from Mumbai Central railway station.

Multiplexes

With the advent of multiplexes, single-screen theaters are now going extinct slowly. These multiplexes are mostly operated within Shopping Malls and are a great place to meet your lover and spend some time in privacy. The trick in the tale is, go there just before the show and while buying the tickets, you can see the occupied seats. Choose the seat where no one is near you. This way, you can choose the best seat possible to get the best possible privacy.

Cafes and Discotheques

Couples and lovers can go to a Cafe, and have a cup of coffee over long conversations

CCD as it is lovingly called, Cafe Coffee Day’s new caption says it all. “A lot can happen over Coffee.”
In today’s time with so many cafes’s around (CCD, Barista, Mochas, Java Green, etc. ) Mumbai, you can spend a lovely time with your loved one. With music on always, and the smell of coffee you can talk to your partner to your heart’s content.

Couples and Lovers to disco!

It may work out costly but still be cheaper than going to a Discotheque (Pub). There are numerous pubs in Mumbai, and you can flock to anyone of these. It’s all high class if you ask me, but these are too the best places to hang out with your partner if both of you are loud music fans.

You can order what you want and sit there for hours and hours talking about things you can only speak to your beloved.

Home

There is no place like your place. Call your partner home, and watch a movie. Or just about anything that you two want to do in the confines of your four walls – the best and the safest approach. The only catch, ensure your parents and neighbor’s do not come to know about it. Slip her/him in when everyone else is their busiest – the afternoons. And if you are going to indulge in something special, make sure you buy the essentials – condom!
