Starbucks coming to India

The Coffee retail gaint Starbucks is now coming to Indian shores with in next seven months. This is a news for many who flock to the coffee joints like CCD and Barista for two sips of coffee. So now we have the best brand representing coffee in India. The “tea loving” Indians have been turning to Coffee as more youth preferring Coffee to Tea. Consumption of Coffee in India has more than doubled for past decade.

Starbucks have also signed an agreement with Tata Coffee to source beans and explore opening stores, the companies said in a statement yesterday. The first Starbucks store in India will open in about seven months as said by the company management on a leading Business Television network. The stock of Tata Coffee has hit a had its biggest Intraday gain in last 17 months.

Starbucks coming to India

Starbucks will have to face a well established coffee chains like Cafe Coffee Day and Barista, which is a unit of Lavazza SpA of Italy. Among them, they have more than 1,200 shops already in the market. CCD, as it is affectionately called among the youngsters who are its main consumer base, has the biggest market share in organized Coffee shop retail industry. There are much less known players too, like Javagreen, who are ramping up their presence silently.

      I am not sure why it is being delayed but impending government formalities is what taking time. I am sure you would see one opening within next six months but it all depends upon the how the approval process goes.

    This is nice, does not matter which is the cafe, all im concerned is a hang out place where u can sit wid friends, your loved ones n sip cofee and share ur tlks..well i like the coffee mocha there, u knw when n where i had that 😉

      Yes my dear, I know where you had that cafe mocha and when, I am sad 🙁 I wasnt there with you then… and yes very true that all we are concerned off are a place to sit and have a sip of coffee with sharing talks. I am sure we both will head to the first Starbucks that opens here 🙂 what say?

    Hi. Thanks for this write-up. I wasn’t aware that Starbucks finally did make it to india. 3 years back few of my friends had done a severe research on this when Starbucks was investing but was thrown off the plan because of CCD’s power. A great big coffee connoisseur myself back in India I was a super-passionate fan of CCD and in New York I am of Starbucks instead of Dunkin Donuts and other such chains.
    Would love to look into this matter more….nice writing and nice blog!!

      A coffee shop is much more than coffee, very true Geeta. You can have pastries, salads as well as sandwiches.. i dont know what Panini is so i leave it at that.. 🙂
