US Politics: Elect a President please

I have been reading a lot about the US Elections and about how Donald Trump is blowing his own trumpet to woo voters in his favor. That said, the method he has used sometimes are downright cheap and not fitting for someone who is contesting for the post of President of United States of America.

Donald Trump says that “I’m the most successful person to ever run for the presidency, by far.”

Well, I am no one to judge if Americans think he is the right candidate, but I would start questioning a majority of Americans and way of their thinking if at all Trump wins. Someone who has a net worth of $9 Billion, and not shy to praise himself, one has to think too hard to say this guy is running be a President of USA. His campaign team differs on his net worth by one, to count it a $10 Billion net worth instead.

“A total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what’s going on”

Religious Clashes – Why do we need them at first place?

If you had a chance to read my post on The Great Indian Elections of 2014, there is something I had already said but did not anticipate it any time soon. Yes I am talking about the recent Communal clashes at Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh.

For once, there is no clarity on what caused the riots – with numerous stories doing rounds on social networks. And I have seen a few of my friends on Facebook starting to post messages – things that say or give more importance of Hindutva or Hindu Nationalism. I choose to ignore those messages, however many others may not.

Following these clashes, an announcement by BJP led me to write on this. BJP announced that they will send Modi to Muzaffarnagar too.  (more…)

The Great Indian Elections of 2014

Coming soon is the great Indian Elections in year of 2014. So many of us have openly shared jokes and puns on the Congress and how their rule affected all of us for last 10 years. Many of us are seeing Modi as an icon who will help change all of that like magic.

I am of the opine that things will not change drastically, at least not in next 3 years. As such, the country has lost their faith in political rule and only hoping that someone would change this. Modi being the hope actually.

He has his troubled past, the 2002 riots behind him. The Party behind him has its ups and downs recently, and does not possess its own strength to rein the votes to Prime Minister-ship. It remains to be seen how strong it gets before the elections. (more…)

Political Slug Fest 2012

Welcome to Political Slug Fest 2012!

Its a Political Slug Fest approaching and every politician is making his or her presence felt. After all, its the 2014 elections approaching.

I started wondering why so early? We are yet to live through 2013, and are not even sure if we will live through this year according to Mayan’s prediction of End of the World in December 2012. And the whole lot of Scams and publicity antics are just adding up. Do you feel that this is getting a bit over board and getting messy by the day? A quick view at the top news channel website and you will get 10 “Breaking News” at the very least. Such is the dynamics of politics in India.

Let me start off with the smallest one. Petrol prices have been a political hot boiler for some time now and the latest news is that its cheaper by 0.56 paise!! This is definitely a welcome breaking news after the vehement protest by Mamta Banarjee. The Liquefied Petroleum Gas, or common man’s fuel prices have not been reduced, and the number of cylinders offered for a family now reduced to 3 / year in some states. Its time we all get Induction Cookers / Stoves at home.

But, would that not increase my electricity cost?

Kejriwal flew a political beemer at BJP by hi-jacking the hike in Electricity rates issue for consumers in Delhi. He was shown tearing apart what appeared to be electricity bills from Delhi electric distribution companies. Poor guys, they will have to still pay their bills and stand in queue for the duplicate bill as well!

Speaking of electricity, we of course cannot forget the Coal gate, and it does need no introduction and explanation. Country cried over it, but that voice ultimately died on its own because of T20 World Cup.

As if Cricket did not have its own problems already, India TV claimed today that they have video footage of Umpires who agreed to fix the match. Candidly called “Operation World Cup”, curiously enough,  none of the umpires featured in the sting operation were actually on the ground in Sri Lanka. How is that? or Howszzatt! or Whaterver.

Then was the Irrigation Scam in Maharashtra where the ruling coalition party is in fix. Ajit Pawar immediately offered to resign. I was wondering why? Has it not been the trend now to still stick to your seat even if the allegations run into 6+ digits in crores? Gone are the days when moral responsibility had a meaning.

I am sick of bigger scams, so here comes a small one. Small, albeit in the number of crores of Rupees but big when you gauge the tight slap on its face. Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi. He allegedly has taken money in return of favors from his wife’s home party politicians, DLF being the prime accused vendor.  Almost all of Congress’ top politicians came out to defend the son-in-law of party clan.

Obviously, the above was thanks to Arvind Kejriwal who managed to sneak into DLF’s transactions and unearthed a potential political big PLUS for his party, the India Against Corruption or abbreviated IAC.

IAC? Does it sound similar to INC?

The issue is latest and refuses to die down. Thanks to Media, it will be alive for some days to come. And yes, I did not even started talking about Bigg Boss!

Politics wants to rename Dadar Station

Funnily enough, the NCP and Congress in their efforts to woo the Dalit votebank have time and again, used Dr. Ambedkar’s name. Silly, I fail to understand why is it even needed! If Dr. Ambedkar was with us today, he would have certainly objected the vote bank politics.

Why in the world they want to keep renaming everything that is famous? I say, lets start with renaming their names. They are famous too, are not they? Since they are famous as well, we should all force all political leaders to change their names so that we can give our forefathers some credit.
